Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the French league champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the final moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to complete a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
